Did you know that Digbeth boasts over 25 beer gardens and outdoor spaces? And no two are the same, all bringing different vibes and offerings to the heart of Birmingham’s Creative Quarter!

In no particular order, here are a few alfresco spots that you absolutely should head to this summer – don’t forget your sunnies and SPF!

AutoBrew

Small but mighty, you can find AutoBrew in the Custard Factory (next to the handy cut-through to Heath Mill Lane). They are best known for being the UK’s first self-service bar and cafe, and the self-pour wall means no waiting around for a top-up!

There’s a selection for all tastes, such as craft beer, cocktails, wines, spirits and soft drinks. They also have snacks if you’re feeling peckish, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. The street art surrounding it will be perfect for your next Instagram shot too!

Go check them out if you fancy playing bar keep for the day.

The Ruin

Situated on Floodgate Street on the corner of Little Anne Street, The Ruin is inspired by, you guessed it, the famous ruin bars of Budapest!

The deceptively large space spans out over two floors, so sit back and relax in a rooftop oasis, complete with a caravan bar and a graffiti feature wall. They regularly host events worth checking out, such as jazz and poker nights.

Food-wise, you can enjoy nachos, loaded fries, burgers and even Sunday roasts, all washed down with a draught beer (including local names Birmingham Brewery, Burning Soul and New Invention), 2 for £15 cocktails and wines.

Zumhof Biergarten

Located next to the iconic crushed car park, we continue on our city break adventure with the German flavour of Zumhof Biergarten on Heath Mill Lane!

In the Biergarten, you will find their famed outdoor music stage which brings a festival teepee vibe, with live music, drag, DJ sets and so much more.

And that’s not all – their Food Märkt is comprised of some of Birmingham’s best food traders, including Chatty Patty and Notty Bites. Enjoy all this washed down with one of their Haus Cocktails for £9.50, or perhaps you’d prefer a tap bier?

The Rainbow Pub

The Rainbow has a longstanding reputation in Digbeth and underwent a huge renovation when new owners unveiled the wonderful new look to the well-loved venue back in 2021.

The High Street venue’s makeover included the introduction of a delightful outdoor garden space, perfect for enjoying an outdoor cocktail or two, alongside some of the finest vegan food in town courtesy of the very talented Ba-Ha. On Saturdays, you can even enjoy a Ba-Ha bottomless brunch for £35, including unlimited sweet shop cocktails!

The Rainbow is also home to live sports and events; throughout the week, they show BT Sport and Sky Sports, and they have a busy calendar of events on their website, including live music, comedy nights and even karaoke!

The Old Crown

Birmingham’s oldest pub, The Old Crown, has stood the test of time through many centuries since 1368, and now it’s a must-visit in the heart of Birmingham’s Creative Quarter!

The bright colours of this High Street pub’s beer garden is perfect for summer sunsets; plus, this June, they launched their 4 week Street Food Fest with a host of Birmingham’s best traders, themed cocktails and live music.

You can also enjoy their other offers, including a kilo of chicken wings for £15 from Monday-Thursday, and 241 fish and chips and £15 fizz on Fridays to start the weekend off right.
