We have been loving Independent Retailer Month here in Digbeth and seeing you all celebrate the amazing businesses that add to the thriving community in Birmingham’s creative quarter!

This year marks 20 years since the first Independent Retailer Month, so it’s especially exciting to be promoting our local independents!

In part 1 of our Independent Retail Month spotlight, we visited Red Brick Market, Ridding & Wynn, COW Vintage, The Outdoor, The Framers and Bene Culture. Check it out here.

And that’s not all of the independents Digbeth has to offer; read on to discover more of our favourites…

Doctor Oculus

One of the best things about independent retailers is that they’re often more sustainable, and that’s certainly true of Doctor Oculus! Make them your go-to for eco-friendly, high-quality eyewear, including frames and lenses – just BYOP (bring your own prescription)!

They also offer a repair and refurb service, so you can make your frames last as long as possible! Find them in the Custard Factory on Gibb Street.

Ideal Skateboard Supply

The ideal retailer to visit for your skateboarding needs, Ideal Skateboard Supply have been supporting the scene since 1991, not only selling the hardware but also clothing, footwear and accessories from all the coolest big and small brands.

Visit them in the Custard Factory, Gibb Street to discover more.

The Zen Shop

Find your zen in The Zen Shop, who specialise in crystals, holistic homeware, tarot and magic and so much more. Since expanding to Digbeth in 2010, this family-run independent has also hosted workshops and courses including tarot for beginners, chi kung, reiki and candle magic.

And if that’s not enough, they also offer spiritual and healing treatments, such as hypnotherapy and reflexology, from their High Street location.

Jinxy Art

Another thing that Digbeth is famous for is its art, and Birmingham lad Jinxy adds to this with his eponymously named gallery. As well as portraits of iconic figures (including the Peaky Blinders!), make sure you enquire about commissions.

Find their gallery in the Custard Factory on Gibb Street!

If you’ve made a visit to any of Digbeth’s independent retailers this July, be sure to tag @InDigbeth so we can share this across our channels! And stay up to date with more of the latest Digbeth news over on our social media.

Happy independent shopping!
